World War I

Roll of Honor of

32D ‘Red Arrow’ Division

Soldiers Transferred to Other Units as Replacements

The term ‘Roll of Honor’ or ‘Honor Roll’ had two meanings in the U.S. circa 1917/1918. Sometimes it referred to a list of individuals from a certain community or area who served in the military during the war. At other times it referred to a list of individuals from a certain community or area who died in military service during the war. Sometimes the list included both.
This Roll of Honor contains the names of two hundred and five Soldiers transferred from the 32D ‘Red Arrow’ Division to other units and who died during WWI.
While the 32D Division was utilized as a replacement division for a few weeks in March of 1918, almost all of the privates, privates first class, and captains from the 128TH Infantry Regiment were transferred to other units.  Most, if not all, went to the 1ST ‘Big Red One’ Division.  A full strength infantry regiment had 2,725 privates and privates first class and 18 captains.  The 128TH Inf. was nearly full-strength at the time.  Those Soldiers will form the majority of this list.
The Soldiers transferred from the Wisconsin National Guard to the 150TH Machinegun Battalion, 42D ‘Rainbow’ Division, will also be included on this list.  While they technically had not been assigned to the 32D Div., they would have been if they had not been sent to the 42D Div.  Michigan National Guard Soldiers transferred to the 42D Div. will also be included here when found.
There were other Soldiers transferred to other units for any number of reasons.  Those among them who died will be included here as well, when they are found.
There are countless names missing from this roster. This roster will be updated periodically, as new information is discovered, and as time permits.
